A downloadable mod

My second MBF21 weapon mod. It's primarily meant for Jaska's Lost Civilization, but should work well with any map pack for Doom that doesn't focus on fighting hundreds of monsters at once.

SLOT 1:

KwfG8AR.png Combat Knife: A sturdy knife you had on you before things fell apart. It's sharp, silent and has better reach than your hands - ideal for dealing with smaller foes quietly.

enmVug5.png Bloody chainsaw: Someone had the right idea in using this tool as a weapon. You just hope the blood isn't too fresh.

SLOT 2:

7RCjSbQ.png Revolver: A sturdy .357 Magnum revolver with a stainless steel finish and a 4 inch barrel. A nice find for sure, and sure to come in handy in your travels.

SLOT 3:

WXH2CeM.png Hunting shotgun: Your typical double-barreled, break action shotgun with long barrels. It's quite accurate out to surprisingly long distances for a shotgun, so don't be afraid to pull it out if something needs to be put down from afar.

bcrs0qV.png Combat shotgun: Trading raw stopping power for rapid fire, this automatic shotgun is ideal for close range combat. The action and trigger are quite nice, so you can really pump a lot of lead in a short amount of time.

SLOT 4:

fzeDToV.png Submachine gun: A handy little gun that's had its stock sawn off for extra mobility. It's open bolt, so don't expect particularly good accuracy from it - not that it matters, it hits decently hard and has a fast rate of fire.

SLOT 5:

KDXDy0v.png Grenade launcher: Simple to use and made with a lightweight polymer stock, this gun lobs out explosive rounds and deals quite a bit of damage in a wide radius. Don't get too close to the explosions and you'll be alright.

 SLOT 6:

g8rRDUK.png Incendiary rifle: Allegedly developed as an alternative to flamethrowers, this prototype weapon's rounds travel slower than regular bullets but carry a small explosive incendiary payload. Great against just about any target, just keep an eye out on your ammo since it chews through cells. Firing more than 5 shots in quick succession makes the gun cool down once you stop shooting.

SLOT 7:

TsyjVBl.png Voskhod NFG-2X: This prototype weapon is quite unique, as it's best thought of as a full-auto missile launcher. Its rounds take around two seconds to "arm", at which point they begin to aggressively seek out any hostiles. Though it quickly chews through ammo, it's quite powerful and generally will kill whatever you point it at in a few bursts. Watch out for the cooldown as it's quite lengthy and unlike the incendiary rifle, it needs to do so after every burst.

Note: Foils splash damage immunity. Use this against bosses.

Some tips:

  • The grenade launcher is roughly twice as powerful as the vanilla rocket launcher, but has a larger blast radius too. Don't get close to it.
  • Don't be afraid to switch weapons. All of them switch twice as fast as vanilla.
  • Both of your melee weapons are far more useful now. The chainsaw isn't silent, but the knife is - use that to your advantage if you want.
  • Try to aim your shots! The revolver and hunting shotgun are the only weapons with perfect accuracy here, but both are quite powerful within their niches.
  • Mind the low cell count! You carry less than usual, but the incendiary rifle is 1/3rd more powerful than vanilla and the NFG can down a cyberdemon in ~14 shots.

Install instructions

This mod should work  in any port with MBF21 DSDHacked support. Click here for a list.

GZDoom users, ensure your version is at least 4.11.3 or you may find issues!

This mod is primarily tested on Nugget Doom and has a custom HUD specifically made for it.

If you're using GZDoom, Woof or Nugget, you can use the version with PNG graphics for better compatibility with WADs that have their own palettes, such as Ancient Aliens, Back to Saturn X E1 or the various DBPs.

I also liked Innawoods, and yes, the warning message on this page is also a false positive. The mod is clean and runs smoothly. BTW, here's a video with it:
